Many want to place the blame on the bishops. Well, that may or may not be, I don’t know. I’m just not an expert in American Church history, and therefore am not really comfortable making that assessment. I will say this though, the bishops seem to be standing now, and my chest fills with pride.
“The White House seems to think we bishops simply do not know or understand Catholic teaching,”
-Timothy Cardinal Dolan
And here we are. Obama seems to think he knows more about Catholic teaching then the bishops.
You can’t make this stuff up.
I’m not normally one to get political, it’s just not my thing, but this is getting so very out of control. When a government as morally corrupt as our starts claiming itself as the highest authority you better watch out.
Seriously, you better watch out. Be afraid.
I hate to say it, but in truth we brought ourselves to this mess. When we allow political organizations like Call to Action and Catholics for Choice to continue defining themselves as Catholic when they are clearly out to destroy the authentic teaching of the Church, we are asking for it.
When we crown the nations most outspoken proponent of abortion in glory at our very own institution, we have not only allowed this confusion, we have nursed it, clothed it, and quite literally, sent it off to college.
Yup, this is our bed, and now we are sleeping in it.
So the White House think it knows the teaching of the Church better than our bishops. Why should it think otherwise? When has it ever seen Catholics stand up with one voice against what is intrinsically evil? Yes, I know that many of my readers have stood, and will stand in these issues, and I thank God for you every day. In the national sphere though, the Catholic voice is nearly silent, and when it does speak, it is often paired with open dissent.
I cannot remember ever feeling so proud to be a Catholic. There is nothing so powerful to me as seeing our shepherds standing up, fists ready for the fight. Maybe our former bishops allowed this to slip under the radar, but I am swelling with hope now.
Our bishops are in union. They are on the same side. They aren’t backbiting. They are all in. They have seen the threat, and they seem to know that the time to act has come. Let us pray for them constantly, and not falter when they ask us to do some silly little thing like send a letter to our congressmen. Let us also pray that this is the beginning of a much larger fight to protect all mankind from the evils so prevalent in our modern culture.
Your Excellencies, if you wanna brawl, I got your back.
